She received a B.A. in History from Furman University, an M.A. from ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ and College of Charleston\u2019s joint Master of Arts in History program, and a Ph.D. in African American History from The Ohio State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knight\u2019s research focuses on institutional slavery, or the ownership and hire of slaves by universities, schools, and government institutions. She is working on a book about slave-holding and slave-hiring by municipal institutions in Charleston, South Carolina. Her publications include a&nbsp;contribution to&nbsp;<em>Champions of Civil and Human Rights in South Carolina: Volume 1, Dawn of the Movement Era, 1955-1967&nbsp;<\/em>(University of South Carolina Press, 2016) and several academic reviews.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Knight\u2019s courses include Slavery, Memory, and the Making of the American South, African American History to 1865, part one of the American History survey, and the Western Civilization surveys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knight is Director of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/inclusive-excellence\/universities-studying-slavery\/#:~:text=Within%20our%20state%2C%20the%20USS,of%20Charleston%20and%20Furman%20University.\">Universities Studying Slavery Committee<\/a>\u00a0and a member of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/root\/tcht\">Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Center<\/a>\u00a0team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Degrees:<\/strong><br><strong>Ph.D&nbsp;<\/strong>African American&nbsp;History&nbsp;(The Ohio State University)<br><strong>M.A.&nbsp;<\/strong>History&nbsp;(ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ &amp; The College of Charleston Joint Program)<br><strong>B.A.&nbsp;<\/strong>History (Furman University)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Research Interests:&nbsp;<\/strong>Institutional slavery, urban slavery, southern African American history&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Felice Knight specializes in African American History with an emphasis on slavery during the early national and antebellum periods.
